Should Marriage Be A 50/50 arrangement?

Many years ago a friend once gave me this advice.
While it would be nice if each person carried 50% of the workload, it is not realistic.

Most of the time, the percentage is 60/40 or 70/30. Sometimes one has a job and is going to school and the other has to bear most of the household work and child rearing. Sometimes one has a lengthy illness and the other has to pick up the slack. Whatever the circumstances, there is always one who needs to give more than his or her "share."

Couples will have less conflict over who has to do what if each aims for giving 100%. If each one gives all that they can, if each one does their best, there is less worry about things "being equal."

THE BEST WEDDING CEREMONY

The best wedding ceremony is one that is meaningful to both individuals. Sometimes couples come from different religious backgrounds, different traditions, different cultures, pressure and expectations from parents. It is important for a couple to identify and find common ground in their beliefs and values. This common ground will be an anchor during the joys and sorrows of married life.

Oklahoma Wedding Ceremony ™ provides a variety of options for couples to consider who come from diverse experiences. The best wedding ceremony is comprised of traditional and contemporary elements that both of you find meaningful. © 2011

Wedding Ceremony: religious or nonreligious

Planning your wedding ceremony provides a great opportunity to reflect on one’s faith and beliefs.  Surprisingly, many couples seek to be married by a minister but don’t attend worship or have ties to a congregation of faith. When a couple comes to me and we begin talking about what kind of service they want, religious [...]

Before You Get Married

Before you get married, there are at least five things to consider about the person you want to marry.  The following questions may help you determine whether your fiance’ or partner is a good match for you.  Compatibility depends on interests, values and priorities. (1) Does he/she believe in monogamy?  Does he/she think it is possible to stay faithful to one person? (2) [...]

Compatibility Is Important

Compatibility is a big factor in the success or longevity of a relationship.  Before you get married, consider the importance of the following issues. (1)    What is her/his use of alcohol, drugs or porn?  A problem now is a big problem later.  (2)    What are his/her bad habits?  Are there activities that seem extreme or [...]

Wedding Budget: how much to spend?

Whether you have little or plenty of time to plan or save for the wedding, KEEP IT SIMPLE. No matter who is paying for the wedding, do NOT spend more than you can pay for in advance. In other words, do not put a bunch of expenses on a credit card to pay for the [...]
